Modern Media and the Evolution of Broadcast Networks

Steven Schiffman discusses the modern media and content landscape, the history of broadcast networks, and media consumption in present day. He explains how the digital age has impacted content consumption, and how households may use bundled content in the near future.

Steve is currently the CEO of the Justice Network, a multicast broadcast network featuring programs in the crime, investigation and mystery genres. In addition to airing compelling programs, the Justice Network will feature three 30 second interstitials every hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a week in an effort to catch most wanted fugitives, find missing children and provide national and local safety tips. Prior to being named CEO of The Justice Network, Steve was the Founder of the Schiffman Consulting Group and General Manager of Video for The Washington Post (as an independent contractor) where he is launched a new digital video service he successfully recommended to the Executive Committee at the Post. He was the former President of National Geographic Channels, a portfolio of cable television networks that include National Geographic Channel (NGC), Nat Geo Wild and Nat Geo Mundo. He was responsible for managing revenue and expense, overseeing affiliate and ad sales, content development and strategy, marketing, creative services, digital media, research, business affairs, communications, technical operations and launching new services. He has more than 25 years of experience in general management and marketing where he has consistently built global brands.

Previously, he held senior executive positions at The Weather Channel, NASCAR, and Kraft Foods. He is knowledgeable about Fox Cable Networks media assets and services. He also served as acting CMO for Gemstar International for 5 months (while working at NGC), where he worked with the management teams from TV Guide Channel, magazine, digital, and IPG. He is a board member of Smashburger, The Lenox Corporation and Jawzone.
