The Effects of EPA Regulations on Auto Suppliers
Since the EPA and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced new fuel economy regulations in 2009, the automotive industry has had to find ways to adapt. Beginning in 2012, every new vehicle sold in this country must meet a set of stringent emissions criteria with the intent of saving Americans money at the pump and limiting our dependence on oil—both at home and abroad. Like carmakers, the automotive products industry faced an uphill battle adapting to new fuel-efficiency standards. Their efforts have paid off, however, as the need for new technology and updated manufacturing equipment led to positive innovation for the automotive supply chain at large.
Former automotive products executive Chris Ostrander sits down with GLG to discuss technological advancements in the manufacturing process, behavioral shifts with regard to driving, and more.
With nearly two decades of automotive industry experience, Chris Ostrander is currently the Owner and CEO of his own independent consulting firm, Ceo8 Consulting. Most recently, he served as Chief Executive Officer and President at AP Exhaust Products, Inc. Prior to that, he was President and Senior Vice President of North America Tire Operations of Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.
Between 2008 and 2011, Ostrander was Vice President and General Manager of the Torque Control Products at Eaton Corporation. He also had global sales and marketing responsibilities for Eaton’s Commercial Vehicle and Aftermarket Group. Ostrander joined Eaton in 2004 as Director of Sales for the Automotive Group, before moving to a number of different business units.
Prior to his time at Eaton, Ostrander served in various leadership roles with BOC Group plc as well as the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He holds a B.S in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated in 1991. Ostrander also has an M.S. in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri at Rolla and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan.
